Unlike the Spiti Valley, Kinnaur is lush and verdant as you make your way from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh’s state capital. The slopes are thick with woods, apple orchards and picturesque villages.
The Kinnaur Kailash, abode of Lord Shiva, at 6050 metres, is often glimpsed as the road turns and twist along the Sutlej river. Development over the past few years have made the road a lot easier than what it once was.
Following the old Hindustan-Tibet Road that passes through the Kinnaur valley, you can either makeyour way to Shipki La Pass which at 5,669 metres is bound to bring on altitute sickness, or you can take the road onwards to the Spiti Valley.
